Samaritan House Medical Clinic of Redwood City

Recognizing the Sequoia Healthcare District was in need of an outpatient facility to assist the medically underserved, the Sequoia Healthcare District partnered with Samaritan House, a local nonprofit, that operated a similar clinic elsewhere in San Mateo County. In 2000, the Sequoia Healthcare District Board approved funding for the development and operation of the Samaritan House Free Clinic of Redwood City in an amount of up to $500,000 per year.

Since it’s opening in 2001, the Samaritan House Free Clinic of Redwood City has been an integral facet of the community it serves. Community physicians and nurses primarily staff the Clinic who volunteer their time to provide medical care to the Clinic’s patients. The services are available without charge to those patients who cannot qualify for medical insurance (public or private) nor have the ability to pay for medical care. The Clinic has developed a referral system for patients to other community agencies with the purpose of addressing the patient’s non-medical needs.

The Clinic encourages collaboration among the area’s other community healthcare providers and practitioners in that virtually all of them donate materials or services to the Clinic. This fall, the Clinic will be expanding its services (which include adult and pediatric primary care, dermatology, gynecology and orthopedics) to include dental and eye care.
