Sequoia Healthcare District Challenge Grant Doubles Impact of Donor Gifts
$1.5 Million Matching Pledge to Sequoia Hospital Foundation for Capital Equipment
REDWOOD CITY, Calif. - June 14, 2006 - The Sequoia Healthcare District Board of Directors approved a $1.5 million challenge grant to the Sequoia Hospital Foundation at its open and public meeting yesterday. This represents a 50 percent increase over the matching funds that the District had offered during each of the past six consecutive years.
Donors to the Foundation have met and exceeded the District’s matching grant challenge each year by increasing their contributions and recruiting friends and neighbors to join the cause. Sequoia Healthcare District’s pledge to match the first $1.5 million in contributions is expected to further stimulate this increase in both donors and donations.
"The community has demonstrated through their generosity and financial gifts that they care about the quality of health care at Sequoia Hospital," said Stephani Scott, CEO of Sequoia Healthcare District.
"Matching gifts inspire our donors because they know that the value of their gift doubles," said JoAnn Kemist, President of Sequoia Hospital Foundation. "This pledge will provide a significant incentive to encourage donors to give even more generously."
Sequoia Healthcare District matching funds were used for the upgrade and renovation of a cardiac catheterization lab, purchase of high-tech patient beds, and nursing scholarships. Capital equipment plans for the upcoming year include the purchase of wireless telemetry units, patient ventilators and cardiovascular equipment.
