Older developmentally disabled adults are at great risk for significant health issues such as cardio-vascular disease, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, arthritis, diabetes, osteoporosis, Alzheimer’s disease and obesity. Kainos instructs developmentally disabled adults in the district in nutrition, offers exercise and tracks health factors such as body mass index, blood pressure and cholesterol through qualified medical providers.

What it is: Kainos is a well-established agency that works for the independence of developmentally disabled adults and provides employment and other services through supervised workshops, job contracts and other services. Noting the prevalence of significant health issues, the agency established a program to track and improve health indicators of participants, many of whom are aging in the program. This grant extends those services.

Tip: For Community Health Tip from Kainos
Physical pain represents the body’s request to stop an activity to prevent further harm. If it hurts, don’t do it. That doesn’t mean you have to live with pain or the fear of it. If it hurts, you should also seek the advice of a medical professional. Better yet, don’t wait until it hurts. Get regular medical checkups.
