Supporting the Belle Haven Community Garden to provide fresh food and a supportive environment for a multi-age, multi-cultural community. by Collective Roots

What it is: Research and experience prove that when children and their communities participate in community gardening, quality of life improves. More than a third of children in the district are overweight and nearly four out of five do not eat the quantity of fruits and vegetables federal nutrition guidelines recommend. Collective Roots will work with two district communities to establish two sustainable gardens to promote health, learning and community building.

Tip: For Community Health Tip from Collective Roots As the health of one member of the family improves, so does the health of other family members, whether it’s because of eating right, exercising or declining a night out for junk food. An adult’s better health can communicate a positive message to children. Don’t neglect the reverse — children can help their parents improve.
