Improve the health of teens ages 14 through 17 by increased physical activity, knowledge of nutrition, healthier lifestyle and esteem building.
by Sequoia YMCA
What it is: Sequoia YMCA meets needs not being addressed by schools, commercial fitness centers or sports leagues. Centers for Disease Control projects that one in three children will develop Type II diabetes at some point in their lives, with prevalence of the disease higher among children of African American and Mexican American descent (one of every two). Physical activity and good nutrition can combat the disease, especially among children. The YMCA uses the Stanford Health and Lifestyle Assessment to encourage youth to examine their health habits and change them for the better.
