Lee Michelson, CEO of the Sequoia Healthcare District located in Redwood City , California has a long history working in the nonprofit field.
From 1976 to 1982, after graduating from Webster University in Saint Louis, Missouri, Lee worked as a case manager for Big Brothers and Sisters of Saint Louis. He then became program manager of Big Brothers/Sisters of Wichita, Kansas for one year. He returned to Saint Louis and from 1983 to 1987 he was the Assistant Executive Director of the Providence Program.
From 1987 to 1991, he was the Executive Director of the Asthma and Allergy Foundation, St. Louis Chapter. From 1991 to 1999 he was Director of Community Relations for Blue Cross and Blue shield of Missouri.
From 1999 to 2004 , he was Vice-President of the Saint Louis Sports Commission and from 2004 to 2006 he was Vice-President of Ronald Mc Donald House Charities. He moved to California in 2006 . From 2007 to 2009 he was the Executive Director of the San Mateo County Health Foundation. He became CEO of Sequoia Healthcare District in April of 2009.
He holds a Masters Degree in Health Care Administration from Lindenwood University and did his master thesis on adolescent health.
An avid sports fan, he coaches youth basketball and baseball in Redwood City. He is married and has one son and one step-son.
